Eye-Gazing Meditation The eyes have long been celebrated as “windows of the soul.” Gaze into another’s eyes and experience a dissolution of your identity, a merging into universal oneness. Whenever you feel any differences between yourself and others, yourself and existence, realise that you are on the surface. Look deep and don’t be deluded by the exterior. Step 1: Look Into the Other’s Eyes Sit and look into someone else’s eyes. A soft gaze, blink as little as possible. Look deeper and get absorbed, without thinking. As you stare intently into the eyes, soon the waves will fade away and the ocean will be unveiled. If you can look deep down into the eyes, you will feel that the person has disappeared, the individual has vanished. This person is just a wave of something unknown and profound; some oceanic phenomenon is hidden beneath. Practice this first with a person, because you are closer to that type of wave. Then move to animals – a little more distant. Then move to trees, waves, rocks. Step 2: An Oceanic Experience Soon, you will become aware of an ocean all around. Then you will see that you too are just a wave. Your ego is just a wave. And behind that ego, the nameless, the fathomless, the One is hidden. Only waves are born, the ocean remains the same. Only the many are born, the One stays the same.
